Full Spectrum LightingThe term "Full Spectrum Lighting" refers to the varying degrees of the color spectrum contained within, in comparison to natural sunlight. A "Color Rendering Index" or CRI is used as a gauge to determine how close any given light is to natural daylight. Natural daylight has a CRI of 100. Any source of full spectrum lighting with a CRI registering 90 or higher is considered quite good. Fluorescent lighting which is present in most office buildings and many residential homes as "task" lighting in the kitchen, only contains green-yellow-orange of the color spectrum. Most regular incandescent lamps contain mainly red. Why Use Full Spectrum?In order to function at optimum levels, all living matter requires the nutrients supplied by the full spectrum of natural daylight.
